MTV Networks has acquired the exclusive United States television rights to air one of the most anticipated films of the year -- Michael Jackson's This Is It.

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film becomes available to MTV Networks in 2011, and continuing through the entire six-year network window. The deal includes all domestic channels under the MTV Networks umbrella, including MTV, VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia and rounds out the music networks' commitment to celebrating the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. The arrangement also extends to Viacom's BET Networks, including its newest channel, Centric. Channels and premiere dates will be announced at a later time.

"The film is a true testament to Michael's musical genius, passion and commitment to his craft," said Van Toffler, President of the MTV Networks Music Group. "Michael Jackson has always been inextricably tied to our viewers as they witnessed his evolution from a talented performer to a global icon who redefined music. Now, with this film, we can help give his fans a chance to see his final performance."

Father of the boy who accused Jackson commits suicide

added: 18 Nov 2009 // by: newsdesk

The father of a boy who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse has committed suicide.

Evan Chandler – whose son Jordy was 13 when he claimed in 1993 the pop star had molested him – was discovered in bed holding a firearm with a gun shot wound to the head. He was 65

The former Beverly Hills dentist was found by a concierge at his waterfront Jersey City apartment in New Jersey on November 5 after he failed to keep a doctors appointment.

News of his death only emerged yesterday (17.11.09).

It comes just five months after his son’s alleged abuser Michael Jackson died at his Los Angeles home from acute Propofol intoxication.

A police source said: "We have ruled it as suicide because he was found with a gun held to his body. He had a single bullet wound to the side of his head.

'There was no note but officers did find medication in keeping with a serious medical condition."

Dad-of–four Chandler’s claim that Jackson had abused his son triggered the singer’s fall from grace in the early 90s.

A 13-month police probe followed including a raid on Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, in California.

The case never reached court after Jordy was given a $22 million settlement and signed a contract agreeing never to talk about the allegations.

After the public furore following the allegations, divorcee Evan underwent a series of bizarre cosmetic surgery operations, just as Michael did.

Jordy – now 29 and living in Long Island, New York, under an assumed name – had fallen out with his father.

He took out a restraining order against him in 1996 claiming his dad had attacked him with a dumbbell weight.

In the same year, Evan filed a $60 million lawsuit against Michael and his then-wife Lisa Marie Presley for talking about the case – allegedly breaching the confidentiality contract.

The officer in charge of the suicide probe, former Santa Barbara County Sheriff Jim Thomas, said yesterday: 'Everybody in this whole saga was touched tragically.'

Michael Jackson King of 2009 Halloween

An online fancy dress retailer has reported a massive increase in Halloween related purchases. Fabparty.co.uk owner Nick Whiles believes the increase is unlikely to curtail in the near future.

"Over the past two years, we've seen increased demand for Halloween accessories and fancy dress items. We put this down to a large increase in the amount of adults celebrating Halloween. Traditionally, Halloween in the UK was about taking the kids trick or treating, but now, people are throwing parties and really embracing the fancy dress element of Halloween. We've had just over 40% more people coming to our site in 2009 than we had in 2007."

Pop culture references, including celebrities and characters from cult adverts, have become a major factor in encouraging revellers to embrace the fancy dress. Last year, many paid a Halloween tribute to Heath Ledger's Dark Knight character and 2009 saw party goers paying tribute to Michael Jackson.

Whilst Halloween fever is a relatively new phenomena in the UK, it is a well established fixture on the party scene in America. Joel Silverman, an American student who has lived in London since 2005, believes social networking has played a part in the UK's recent enthusiasm for what was once an American obsession.

"When I first moved here, I quickly realised that Halloween wasn't such a big deal. There were very few parties and it was more focussed towards children. However, over the past two years, it has really taken off. With Facebook and other social networking sites, it has been really easy for people to organise Halloween parties - and with the ease of sharing photographs, everyone wants to get into the spirit of Halloween."

Whilst the increase is a welcome bit of good news for fancy dress retailers and party suppliers around Halloween, it has also been revealed that fancy dress in general is increasing in popularity.

Nick explains. "In the run up to Christmas, we're noticing a marked increase in the amount of people seeking out Christmas fancy dress. Compared to last year, we anticipate an increase of about 10% in people coming to us for a Christmas themed costume."

Nick expects Christmas fancy dress revellers to be spoiled for choice this year. "We've learned that there is a huge diversity in taste when it comes to dressing up. That's why we've expanded our range to include potentially thousands of fancy dress ideas. You can find pretty much anything in our range."

Michael Jackson - Rest In Peace

Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist and entertainer. In addition, his recording career enabled him to have a role as a businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his début onto the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1969, and later began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the ""[2] in subsequent years, his 1982 album Thriller remains the world's best-selling record of all time[3] and four of his other solo studio albums are among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and History (1995).

In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "Thriller"—widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.

Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundations, charity singles, and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his often changing appearances and eccentric behavior, generated significant controversy which damaged his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, all of which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.

One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and the sale of 750 million records worldwide.[4] Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades. Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, aged 50.[5] The specific cause of death has yet to be determined.[2] Before his death, Jackson had announced a 50-date sell-out This Is It comeback tour, in London, England.[6]
